Unlatching
It never occurred to me
that I had to forgive him, I have
it on his authority the train and the creek
were both my fault, as well as the water
heater that broke two years after I left.
Even with the click-clicking of the tracks,
and the stream crinkling up in
the sunlight, and the taste of rust in my mouth,
I will not reassign the fault,
for what power I must have had to be able
to take the blame for the combination of air and water
and its natural result.
